BLUES ARTIST KAMI COLE SOUL Kami Cole sings the blues from the heart as she came up listening to her father Guitar Slim Cole, who was a blues singer, and that fire and love extended on to Kami at the early age of 5 years old, singing songs by Z.Z. Hill, Bobby Blue Bland, and B.B. King. She was born in Denver, Colorado, but her family roots stems from south Louisiana where she now lives. She soon joined the church choir at the age of 9, and from there she would perform in every school talent show and traveled with the Denver, Colorado NAACP, performing in Las Vegas and Chicago. Kami recorded her first single titled, “Don’t Take My Love For Granted” at the age of 16, with XIV Records in Denver, Colorado. Kami at the age of 19, auditioned to become one of the background singers for recording artist, Kenne Wayne. While on the road with Kenne and his band, she started learning more about Soul Blues and performing on stage for an audience. She had the honor of traveling and opening for legends Tyrone Davis and Marvin Sease, and had the opportunity to be on a show with the late great Jackie Neal. She soon joined a band called Grand Slam and became one of the lead vocalists. One of the songs she was known for singing with Grand Slam is “Bill” by Peggy Scott Adams. While singing in the band she auditions for American Idol and won a golden ticket to Hollywood. Taylor Hicks went on to become the winner of that season, but I was able to learn a lot about my voice and truly start to understand the power of my gift. It was one of the biggest stages I performed on at that point. She soon joined band called The Flavor Band, and she was with this band for over 10 years traveling and performing the blues. While performing with the band she had the honors to pay tribute to some of the music artist that inspired her, such as Betty Wright, Peggy Scott Adams, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston. Unfortunately, after the passing of three members Chris Curley, Randy Lovett and Moses Morgan passed she decided to go back to school and started a family, however, she felt a void in her world and realized she was missing her music. So in 2018, I wrote my first single titled “Sugar Daddy” produced by Roi Chip Anthony and this is where she got her start as a Soul Blues artist. She worked with producers Mr. Phatt, Michael Lockett, Ves Garrett, Wendell Glover, Gee Joseph, Rich Wright and C-Wright on two albums. She was honored to have collaborations with New Cupid and Lil’ Runt on the upcoming album to be released August 28 th of this year. It was the passing of her mother in 2019, that she started writing the upcoming album “From The Heart” with the encouragement from Gee Joseph who executive produced and done the arrangement on the album.
