Last season the Texans drafted Deshuan Watson as the number 12th pick overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Months before the draft he took revenge on the Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA football team in the College Football National Championship. The year prior, Alabama and Clemson was the top teams in college football in 2015 and Alabama won … what was rare that the two teams met again in 2016 and Deshaun Watson put on an impressive comeback. Comebacks has been Deshaun Watson life story. In 2014 he torn his ACL but he came back in 2016 he led Clemson back by scoring 3 touchdowns on the nations best defense in the 4th quarter.
Despite his accomplishments he was not the #1 QB drafted, Mitchell Tribusky was the #1 QB drafted, a back up who only started his final season who actually played in the same conference as Watson. Still in the first 7 games of his NFL career Watson led all NFL QBs with 19 TDs as a rookie. In that same season he torn his other ACL and was out for the rest of the season.
This past offseason Watson returned with a healthy JJ Watt, Clowney and Whitney Mercilus on defense the Texans are bound for the playoffs and currently in 2nd place in the AFC. If the win out they will secure 2 home playoff games. Now the Texans have been in this situation before but never had a QB with the pedigree like Watson. They are 10 -4 now but can Watson be that player who against all odds take his team to the Super Bowl?
So far the national media has not given him credit but he has The Gift to win despite the circumstances. 11 teams decided to pass on Watson in the Draft. 5 of them needed a quarterback. I consider him as The Gift to Houston, the best team in Texas. He has proven last season was not a fluke … I can’t wait for the Texans to unwrap The Gift and let the NFL world see what’s inside in the playoffs.
